Las Vegas golf for beginners and high handicappers

Choose a manageable format, sensible tees and a day that feels enjoyable.

Start shorter if you are new

Angel Park’s Cloud Nine is a 12-hole short course by Bob Cupp and John Fought; nine holes are lighted for evening play. It offers a shorter format, but the inspired hole designs still present hazards and demand sensible shots. Confirm which holes are open and evening availability for your date.

Putting is a real group option

Angel Park’s Devine 9 is a natural-grass putting course. It can suit a mixed group that wants a golf-related activity without committing to a full round. Check current hours and any access rules. A putting outing is different from learning full swings on a practice range.

For 18 holes, make tee choice the priority

Consider Angel Park Palm or Las Vegas National as candidates, then compare their current forward tees, forced carries and pace expectations. Neither is automatically easy. Tell the golf shop how far you normally carry a driver and that you are a beginner or higher-handicap player; ask which tees and time of day fit.

Make the round enjoyable for everyone

Warm up before the tee time, carry spare balls and decide on a relaxed format before starting. A scramble can help a mixed-ability group if the club allows it. Keep pace with the group ahead, follow the course’s pickup guidance and avoid treating every shot as a tournament score.

Book support before arrival

Ask about an introductory lesson, practice access and rental equipment before paying for a full round. Confirm that the rental set fits your handedness and whether shoes are available. If the whole group is new, a lesson plus putting or a short course may be a better first day than a championship layout.
